These Touch Our Hearts

To whom much is given, much is expected.
Drugs took my child away when he was ten years old.  The Palmer Drug Abuse Program gave him back.

PDAP is the only free outpatient abuse recovery program for young people in the Greater Houston area.  A fellowship of young people and parents who have joined forces under the guidance of trained professionals – all of whom are in recovery – PDAP offers our children a viable alternative to continued substance use..  Only those who are in recovery truly can understand and speak to our children so that they will believe and listen and learn.  Through the support group provided by PDAP, a child learns to cope with day-to-day living.  New and healthy friendships are made with those who hold each other accountable for their behavior.  Different activities help them to socialize and to have fun … substance free … while learning important living skills often lost while abusing drugs and alcohol.

PDAP consistently rates among the best for the cost effectiveness of its program.  With only two paid administrators, the rest of the funds go directly to program costs.

We need your help.  Please consider a direct donation through www.pdaphouston.org.  Even better, please spend an afternoon of fun touring the city at our fourth annual “Sunday before Super Bowl Sunday Road Rally.”   Perhaps you or your company can be a sponsor for the rally in addition to your participation.  Kaitlyn has put this rally together as one form of giving back to PDAP for all that PDAP has given her family.

Michael was lost for five years.  He’s been back for five years.  He’s graduated from high school, received the highest honors in his first year at college and helps other young people to their sobriety working for a drug treatment program.  Our relationship gets better every day!  Thank you PDAP!  (www.pdaphouston.org)

Another way we give back is by donating our talents to special causes.  Besides PDAP, Kaitlyn has spent three tax seasons volunteering as the Controller of the Tax Prep Ministry at Lakewood Church.  The Tax Prep Ministry, under the auspices of the Houston Asset Building Coalition and the IRS VITA program, provides free tax return services to those who need our assistance.  Kaitlyn has earned the Presidential Bronze (2006) and Gold (2007) Volunteer Service Awards for her work with this program.  The combined staff at Lakewood Church prepared over 1100 tax returns working two evenings a week and each Saturday from February through April 15.  (houstonassetbuilding.org)

A student at the College of Biblical Studies, Tamisha shares her gift of love as a Big Sister in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.   She spends her Friday afternoons with her little sister, mentoring her to be as amaziing in her own way as Tamisha is in hers. (www.bigbrothersbigsisters.org)
